The Spotlight Effect

There is something in psychology known as the “spotlight effect.”

This is the phenomenon where people tend to overestimate how much others notice aspects of one’s appearance or behavior.

It is believed that the spotlight effect comes from being overly self-conscious as well as not being able to put yourself in the shoes of the other person to realize that their perspective is different from yours.

Summary : The spotlight effect is a bias that causes us to feel like other people are more focused on us than they really are.
